National construction firm, McLaughlin and Harvey (MCLH) is the first organisation in Northern Ireland to have a construction site certified to the Responsible Energy Management (REM) programme.
“The REM programme has helped us better manage how we use energy on our sites. As a result of the REM programme guidelines, we put a process in place that helps us to understand how we are using our energy and where we can improve efficiency,” commented Richard Robinson, Environmental Director with MCLH.
Charlene Jones, Environmental Officer with MCLH highlighted that “Implementing the REM programme on site has also contributed to our score on the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), something that is very important to our clients who place great value on environmental initiatives.”
“We are pleased that as the first certified construction site, MCLH has benefited first hand from the cost savings and green credentials that the REM programme promises to deliver,” commented Global Trust CEO Peter Marshall. “MCLH has seen the cost savings that can be achieved from effective energy management and the green credentials that an energy recognition programme can deliver as a number of their National retail clients have enthusiastically supported the initiative on their sites.”
All businesses can benefit from the REM programmes green credentials and cost savings. Contact a global trust representative on info@gtcert.com to find out more
Mussels colony wiped out after Delphi Bridge RepairsRepair works at Delphi Bridge, County Mayo, may have destroyed Ireland's largest colony of rare freshwater pearl mussels, which are in the Bundorragh River. In November 2011 repair works were being carried out on the bridge during heavy rainfall. The contents of 36 sandbags spilled out into the river. This smothered the young mussels 'in a matter of hours', according to a report compiled by Friends of the Irish Environment (FIE), a lobby group. Welcome
My concern is to demonstrate that there are many initiatives across the UK and Ireland that can make a difference to our ecology and improve the quality of everyday life on planet earth, whether in business, the home, schools or in our open spaces. The main part of it is the Directory, where you can submit details of your business, group or venture. In time I hope to add some articles on environmental issues and develop new features as time allows. |
